Biography
Born into a musician's family, it wasn’t a surprise about Pranav’s inclination towards music since childhood. Traditionally associated, Pranav’s passion can be traced back to his ancestors who used to worship God through music by playing Pakhawaj instrument. Surrounded by melody and listening to his parents constantly, it was inevitable that his training in Tabla began at a very tender age of 3. His journey slowly evolved into a full-time profession which he is pursuing passionately.
Pranav gives credit to his father for being his first music teacher. Being an expert himself, Pranav’s father taught him the basic syllables and language of Tabla. Early in his music education, he got an opportunity to learn from one of the greats, Pandit Nana Mulye, a well-known Tablaplayer. There was no looking back after that! He later on, started his training under Shri. Suresh Samant, a well-established Guru in the field of Tabla for a solid decade. Currently, Pranav is honing his skills and learning slight nuances in the art from one of the leading Tablaplayer Dr. Aneesh Pradhan, an exponent of Farrukhabad Gharana. Simultaneously, he is getting excellent guidance from his grandfather, Shri. Maharudra Dhumal.
His passion to master every aspect of this art form fuelled by his childhood inclination towards music has helped him grow tremendously is his profession. Pranav currently works as an independent musician, performer, composer and a tutor. A multi-faceted personality!
Right from solo performances to accompaniment, he enjoys every bit of music of all kinds. He has had amazing opportunities to work with some of the great stalwarts of Indian Classical Music since early stages of his career and considers it as a blessing. Being a tremendous enthusiast about the technicalities in this Indian classical form of music, he enjoys sharing his curiosity and findings with fellow students. To fulfil his unquenchable thirst of music, he loves to conduct various workshops on Tabla-playing aspects as well as Indian Classical Music.
After getting a bachelor’s degree in commerce as well as in law and legislation, he studied masters in music from Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University. Currently, he is immersed in preparing for his Doctorate in music.
Pranav Gurav is the director at Kalanidhi Arts Foundation, a section 8 company registered under Companies Act, 2015 dedicated to music. At KAF, they try to serve the music community in Pune and around Pune with exciting concerts and activities. An initiative for all the local music connoisseurs!
